Congratulations to Scholarship Winner
The South Central Federation of Labor has awarded four $1,000 scholarships by lottery drawing to the sons and daughters of area union members. Congratulations to Alex Jones! Alex is  a 2010 grad from Parkview High School in Footville studying Media Arts and Gaming Development at UW Whitewater. Alex’s father Jeff works at the Physical Sciences Laboratory in Stoughton and is a member of AFSCME Local 171.

Below are the official application forms for scholarships that are available to Local 171 members and their children. Download the form for the scholarship you are interested in, or call the Local office at 232-9393 to get an application.  Included with the forms are any instructions, along with deadline and mailing information.

South Central Federation of Labor Scholarship
The South Central Federation of Labor is offering four  $1000 scholarships to union members or their children. Winners and alternates will be determined by a lottery drawing. Local 171 members and their families are eligible if they are attending or planning to attend an accredited two or four year college, as long as they have not already been awarded a post secondary degree or have previously received a scholarship. The  deadline is July 11, 2011. All application forms and transcripts must be received at the SCFL office by that time. Beca SCFL
La federación central de trabajadores (“The South Central Federationof Labor”) está ofreciendo cuatro becas de $1,000 a los miembros de la Unión o a sus hijos/as. Los ganadores y suplentes serán determinados por sorteo/lotería. Los miembros de la Unión y su familia son elegibles si ellos asisten o planean asistir a una universidad acreditada de dos o cuatro años. No son elegibles si ellos ya han recibido un grado post-secundario o hayan recibido anteriormente una beca SCFL. La fecha límite para solicitar es el 11 de julio, 2011. Para recibir una aplicación, llame a la oficina de la Union Local 171 al  232-9393.

AFSCME Family Scholarship
The AFSCME Family Scholarship is for graduating High School seniors who are the children of active or retired AFSCME members. This year, at least ten (10) scholarships of $2000 each will be awarded to the winners selected from the applications which meet the eligibility requirements.The scholarships will be renewed for $2000 each year for a maximum of four years, provided the student remains enrolled in a full-time degree program at an accredited institution. Completed applications must be postmarked by December 31, 2010.

Anunciamos la Beca Familiar AFSCME para graduando de Escuela Superior hijos/as de miembros activos o retirados de AFSCME. Este año se otorgorán diez (10) becas de $2000 cada una. Los ganadores serán seleccionados entre los solicitantes que cumplan con los requisitos de elegibilidad. La beca se renovará otorgando $2000 cada año por un máximo de cuatro años, siempre y cuando el estudiante se mantenga matriculado en un programa a tiempo completo en alguna institución acreditada. Las solicitudes deben ser completadas y enviadas antes del 31 de diciembre de 2010.

Union Plus Scholarship
Members, their spouses, and dependent children (as defined under IRS regulations) are eligible to apply for an AFSCME Union Plus scholarship. Applications must be postmarked by January 31, 2011.  For an application, call the Local 171 office at 232-9393 or download one here.

Council 24 Jim Boyd Memorial Members Only Scholarship
AFSCME Council 24 offers a scholarship exclusively for current active WSEU Council 24 members. One (1) one-time scholarship of up to $1000 will be awarded for study at either a two-year or four-year accredited institution of higher education. Deadline: March 15, 2011. Jim Boyd Memorial Scholarship
AFSCME Council 24 is now accepting applications for the 2011 Jim Boyd Memorial Scholarships, available to high school seniors and continuing post-secondary students who are dependents of Council 24 members. Available are:
One (1) $4000 two-year scholarship
One (1) $2000 two-year scholarship
One (1) $2000 one-time scholarship
Six (6) $1000 one-time scholarships
